Some of the wisest words I’ve ever heard came from a fictional children's television show where a spontaneous and courageous teacher named Mrs.Frizzle preached the motto- TAKE CHANCES, GET MESSY, MAKE MISTAKES. These are six words I’ve carried with me my whole life. To be creative, you must be willing to try new ideas, take risks and boldly go where no one creative soul has gone before! You might mess up, but that’s okay because you most likely pushed yourself to new ideas, new ways of thinking and learned a little something along the way. Creativity is not a skill, it’s a feeling. Don’t shy away from it, instead lean into it and watch what happens next.

Hi! I’m Danie - a curious creative, oddball DIYer from Ontario, Canada! 

I’ve always been a creative person my entire life - drawing, painting, crafting, but my personal DIY story started in my 20’s. I was living in a small basement apartment, which had some “unusual architecture” and small unique nooks. In need of better storage and function in the space, I looked to buy my solutions. I was frustrated that no one had the products I needed to solve my issues . Rather than accept defeat (and my small space clutter), I used the limited tools I had and built my solutions instead! They might not have looked beautiful at the time, but they certainly worked. After that, I was hooked!

The truth is, I’ve never been drawn to one specific creative space. My love of creativity and “making” goes hand-in-hand with my crazy, spontaneous, unpredictable personality. 

My life has forever been a DIY in progress, which is why I started this blog. I’m not perfect, I’m not a “pro-builder” but I’m also not afraid to get messy and try new things. DIY In Progress represents more than just simple projects around the home - it represents a lifestyle, a love of home + decor and ultimately — a place to inspire new ideas!

I hope you all enjoy this space and find inspiration to build a little more love into your homes.
